By Night

With days shorter and colder, sometimes it’s difficult to find the right time to go out and take some pictures.

It is still too dark when commuting back from work, so I started taking pictures by night, even though I was never comfortable doing so. I wasn’t sure my camera could handle the low light conditions very well, and probably my hands weren’t steady enough to avoid bringing a tripod.

Whatever the result, I enjoyed trying. It seems like, when it’s darker, the world slows down a bit, even in very busy crossroads.

Thanks to Justin Carey whose talk in July 2016 convinced me – and everyone else in the room – that everything is more interesting at night .

I Have a Thing for Trees

The last time I was out and about with the intention of taking photos, was in November 2016, in Berlin.

After that, I took time to organise and process the work I came back with. During the Christmas holidays, I read a few articles about post-processing in Lightroom, and learned a few tricks I wanted to apply to older photos. Time flew. Continue reading “I Have a Thing for Trees”

The Berlin Fascination

Watching the documentary “David Bowie: The Last Five Years” the other night, I realised there still were two great albums for me to discover. I somehow lost The Next Day – which, I was sure, I bought and saved it somewhere – and, knowing it was supposed to be his parting gift, I’ve never been able to fully listen to Blackstar.

As per the documentary though, Blackstar was never supposed to be a goodbye, so I might give it a go now. Funny how the mind works.

At some point, it struck me how the song Where Are We Now? is about Berlin. That information was lost, too. Seeing Berlin again and hearing the lyrics, reminded me of a recent trip to the German capital, and how much I missed it afterwards.

Goodbye, 2016

Last day of the year — the infamous 2016 — and as usual, it’s almost impossible not to think back to what happened, and decide whether it has been a great year or not.

For me, it’s been a great year. There has been sadness, some difficult moments, yet I’ll remember 2016 as a good one.
